Word Count: 579
Rating: General
Summary: It's not always easy being different. A young Ioreth has a hard day.

Author's Notes: As an added challenge to the above, I'm trying to improve my dialect skills (i.e.: spell as it's pronounced without going totally Huck Finn on my reader. Would appreciate knowing if the dialect-writing is too much, not enough, inconsistent, etc.

Multimedia: For the interested, I listed to Entre Olas by Juan Serrano to get in the mood for writing Ioreth. You might find it good to listen to while reading. I don't know if it makes sense musicologically/historically, but I imagine songs like this as being the "Country-Western" of Gondor's music scene.

Beta: [info]just_ann_now
Notes: Written for [info]agape4gondor. She requested a Boromir/Theodred story, though I think this scene could just as easily be friendship as slash.

"A tattoo?" Faramir asked.

"I know that they practice this art in Gondor," Elfhelm said, as he untied a small bundle and set out the shining needles and tiny pots of pigment. "Did not your own brother sport a large tattoo of a horn on his – uh, backside?"

Faramir smiled wryly. "He had it done after a late-night revel in Dol Amroth, and he rued the deed when he woke on the morrow. Though the mark was in such a place that few would ever see it."

Someone made a strange sound, halfway between a laugh and a cough, and several of the Riders were grinning broadly. No small number of people had gazed upon that famous tattoo during Boromir’s visits to Edoras.

Title: Pride and Despair: A Defense of Ecthelion's Son - Part I
Rating: Teen
Warning(s): discussion of mature concepts
Summary: Denethor is one of the most-criticized characters in Tolkien fandom. Movie-inspired fanons have certainly not done him any favors, but he is disliked and even hated by fans who had read the books long before the movies came out. In this essay I attempt to address some of the most common criticisms against him, and develop a biography of what his life might have been like.

I. INTRODUCTION

"Authority is not given to you, Steward of Gondor, to order the hour of your death. And only the heathen kings, under the domination of the Dark Power, did thus, slaying themselves in pride and despair, murdering their kin to ease their own death."
